10 Antioxidant Superfoods

Staying healthy is extremely important especially as a model or actor. Your body needs to be at peak health in order to function and be available for the many opportunities in the industry. Here are some great foods that can help keep you at your best and allow you to stay healthy and fit and get the right nutrients that you need.

 Figs:
While no food can turn back the clock, some can perk up your looks and slow the aging process.

Eating a handful of dried figs increases the amount of antioxidants in your blood for four hours, much longer than many other foods.

Red Bell Peppers:
The unique combination of large amounts of vitamins A, C, and E make red bell peppers a skin superfood.
Watermelon:
This lycopene-rich fruit provides 33 percent more protection against sunburn than other fruits. (You still have to wear sunscreen though!)

Beans:
Certain antioxidants have been shown to fight cancer, boost immunity, and keep bones strong.

Beans are loaded with phytochemicals (including saponins, protease inhibitors, and phytic acid), which may protect cells from damage that potentially causes cancer, reports the American Institute for Cancer Research.

Prunes:
These wrinkly little dried fruits are rich in vitamin K and a top source of the mineral boron, and we need both for strong bones. A

Cherries:
Young women tend to be oblivious to heart disease, but that attitude itself is a big risk. How you eat today helps predict how healthy your heart will be 30 years from now.

Researchers at the University of Michigan have found that the anthocyanins in dark cherries reduce belly fat and lower cholesterol and blood sugar.

Dark chocolate:
Rich in flavonoids, chocolate is believed to promote heart health by reducing platelet activation, affecting the relaxation capabilities of blood vessels.
Blueberries:
The neural pathways in our brains are growing and improving all the time. Eat the right foods and you'll be able to concentrate better, remember more, and feel calmer.

Blueberries may improve memory, cognition, and balance. Researchers believe that blueberries reduce inflammation and can help us overcome the normal effects of brain aging.

Cinnamon:
Researchers believe that cinnamon may inhibit certain Alzheimer's disease cells.
Plums:
These juicy treats decrease anxiety-related behaviors, and researchers think they may protect against depression.

Make Your Eyes Pop!

For those models and actress' who are doing their own makeup, here is a great way to make your eye colour pop! This is a wonderful way to draw attention to your beautiful and expressive eyes in an upcoming photo shoot or to a casting!

Blue eyes, use a blue or brown hue, green eyes use purple or green's and brown eyes use green or silver's!

Step 1:
Apply neutral shades to your lids on top of your eye primer. (Either matte or shimmer shadows depending on the look you want).

Step 2:
Add your coloured shadow under your lid and make your eyes look larger and brighter!

Step 3:
Add your liner and mascara for the finishing touches and fill in your eyebrows to really stand out and look fierce!

Enjoy!

Are You Applying Your Makeup In the Right Order?

There is a natural order to accomplishing almost anything in life, even applying your makeup. As a model and actress, you might not always have a makeup artist on hand and it can be extremely beneficial and cost efficient to be able to do your own makeup.

What do you do first: Apply lipstick or focus on eyes? Where does blush come in? Can you get away with putting liner on after mascara?

1: Primer or Moisturizer

Choose one, not both. Moisturizer, no matter how light in texture, will interfere with the function of a primer. Also, always remember to get in your sunscreen, whether SPF is built into your primer, moisturizer, or foundation.

2: Foundation

You don't have to do your eyes first to avoid fallout, it is bound to happen regardless of the process so get your foundation done first. To be honest, if fallour falls onto your bare skin, pigments can stain and be harder to remove than if it was to fall on your foundation. Create your canvas and then edit any errors along the way!

3: Concealer

This is often confused and most think you should apply this before your foundation, however your foundation (depending on how good it is for coverage) can cover much of what you want to cover. Apply concealer afterwards to any areas that need more coverage or blemishes etc.

4: Powder

Set it all with a very light dusting of translucent powder. You can even apply a light pressed powder foundation as well to get rid of any shine from your liquid foundations. Apply the translucent powder in excess under your eyes and this will make it easy for you to remove any fallout from your eyeshadow. It acts as a barrier and protects your beautifully finished canvas (your foundation).

5: Eyes or lips

Usually the eyes would be next, most like to finish with the lips but you can mix these up depending on colouring. If you decide on a bright or bold lip colour then applying your lipstick and gloss first can help you decide on eyeshadow colours.

For Eyes Apply: primer > shadow > liner >then mascara to finish. You can always go back after and add a bit of shimmer, extra liner etc. afterwards but can judge based on a finished look!

For Lips Apply: balm > liner > lipstick > then gloss to finish if you so choose. Apply your liner all over your lips to act as a base for your lipstick and to blend to colours since no lip liner is an exact match for all lipsticks.

6: Cheeks

Not many would think to apply cheeks last! Add bronzer and blush to your face after you're done the rest to help tie in the whole look! It ties in the eyes and lips and can help you judge colours as well.

End of Summer Sangria

This version of Sangria is simple and without the added sugar it is the perfect “Skinny Girl” cocktail. This is great for those over 19-models and actors who want a yummy alcoholic treat without the added calories. It tastes good, makes you feel good, and it’s good for your physique, what’s not to like?! Oh, and have you noticed it’s absolutely GORGEOUS?!  This White Sangria Sparkler is an immediate show stopper when entertaining.

You’ll need:
  • 1-2 Bottles of crisp white wine
  • 2 Ripe local peaches, sliced
  • 1 Pint raspberries
  • 2 Kiwis
  • Several sprigs of mint
  • Stevia or Agave
  • 1 bottle of club soda (optional for some fizz)
Simply add the sliced fruit and mint to the wine and add several packets of Stevia or even Agave nectar until desired sweetness is reached. Let sit for at least an hour in the fridge to let the flavors infuse. In the summertime it’s also nice to freeze half of the fruit and add right before serving so they act as ice cubes in the Sangria.

This is a great end of summer treat! *Omit the alcohol for a virgin version of this and use soda instead for anyone under 19!
Enjoy!
