Beauty Tip Thursday - Contouring and Highlighting

Being able to do some basic makeup looks/skills is a huge asset in the entertainment industry especially if you're just starting out and on a budget. Hiring a makeup artist is great, but if you need to cut costs, learn how to do things yourself or at least have a working knowledge of what your makeup artist is doing and why.

Here is a great photo with step-by-step of how to contour and highlight your face. Contouring allows for sculpting your face's best assets and accentuating your features and highlighting brings light to your face in the right places. Both of these are essentials for photo shoot's and if done right can make your photos 10x better and more appealing to casting director's looking at your picture. Trust us when we tell you that photos can make or break if you even get an audition, so if you haven't been getting anything lately maybe it's time to update your photos!

Below is a photo that makes contouring/highlighting and applying blush super easy to understand. Apply your bronzer with an angled brush for contouring your cheeks - under your cheek bones. Add blush above that as well as slightly on the apples of your cheeks and highlight above your cheekbones. Some other area's to add bronzer would be your hairline and jawline and add highlighter in the middle of your forehead, down the bridge of your nose and the center of your chin.

Enjoy!

Beauty Tip Thursday - The Classic Red Lip & Winged Eyeliner

The classic look made famous by Hollywood star's like Marilyn Monroe and Audrey Hepburn in the 50's is the pin up girl look - bold red lips and bold black eyeliner. This is a look that is timeless and absolutely gorgeous.

Being in the entertainment industry this is a MUST on your list of looks to know how to rock. This look is great for photo shoots and can really play up your features and make you stand out from the crowd. Hopefully rocking this look can help your photos be attention grabbers and get you some auditions.

Here's how you can achieve this look:

1. Have a red lipstick that compliments your colouring (if you don't know how to choose a red be sure to consult with a professional at M.A.C or Sephora etc) and a lip liner a couple shades darker to go with it. Lip liner's are essential for red lips!

2. Black gel eyeliner (with an angled liner brush) is what I recommend as it's easy to apply and gives a great polished finish.

3. A neutral beige toned eyeshadow for your lid's and a light brown shade for the crease of your eye.

4. A great and bold voluminous mascara to give you some fierce lashes!

5. A couple bonus items that could further your look would be a good bronzer and highlighter for contouring and highlighting the angles of your face.

Here is a video I did of a red lip tutorial that can help you further.

Wellness Wednesday - Healthy Ranch Dip Alternative

When you're going to casting's and go-see's and need a great healthy snack, veggies are always a great option. When you want to munch on crunchy raw veggies with a yummy ranch dip, it can be packed with calories and fat. It's easy to overindulge on the dip and fill up on calories, so here is a great option for a low fat and delicious ranch-dip alternative that you can take with you to your casting's and on set to eat with your veggies.

Rethink your ranch by substituting Greek yogurt for the sour cream and mayonnaise. Instead of the powdered spices and salt, quickly chop up some chives, parsley, and garlic. There is so much flavor packed in these fresh herbs; only a little salt is needed to satiate your palate. The thick, creaminess of the yogurt will provide you with a seemingly decadent treat when really you are loading up on protein and probiotics that are benefits of eating Greek Yogurt.

Ingredients:
1-2 cucumbers, cut into 1/2-inch wedges
1 clove garlic, mashed into paste
1/2 bunch chives, thinly sliced
1/4 bunch flat-leaf Italian parsley, chopped
1 6-ounce container of strained Greek yogurt
Lemon juice to taste
Salt to taste

Directions:
This dip will complement any raw vegetable, so be sure to try it on bell peppers, carrots, and broccoli florets.
  1. To make garlic paste: chop garlic then add a generous pinch of coarse salt. Mash the garlic and salt mixture with the flat side of your knife.
  2. Stir garlic paste, chives, parsley, and lemon juice to Greek yogurt until well combined. Salt to taste

Wellness Wednesday - Healthy Banana Creams Dessert

Here is a great, healthy dessert that you can take with you or your kids to casting's and go-see's.

Using fresh strawberries, cut the tops off and hollow them out. Mash up a couple banana's and mix into some plain or vanilla flavoured Greek yogurt. Scoop the yogurt/banana mix into the hollow's of the strawberries. If you want, add some almond shavings on top and you're good to go!

These are great small and healthy tasty treats to take as a snack on the go. Make these the night before and store in the fridge to take with you. It's quick and easy to do and taste amazing!

Enjoy!

Toronto Child Model

Take a look at these great photos of Carolyn's Talent, Uzziah from a Magazine shoot. He is such a cutie and did such a great job!

Beauty Tip: Easy At-Home Makeup Protector

Makeup can last all day by using a common household product as a makeup protector. This magic ingredient is believe it or not - CORNSTARCH.

Having a flawless face is important being in the entertainment industry, so anything that can help us look our best is key! Having foundation that lasts all day and doesn't streak or sweat in the heat is a huge asset for any girl, especially those acting or modelling.

Simply mix it with a bit of your foundation and you're set! This is completely safe and shouldn't irritate your skin. However, if you have sensitive or acne prone skin be sure to test it out on a smaller area first just to be cautious. This will help your face stay dry, keep off the sweat for summer & be non greasy all day long.

We hope you enjoyed this great tip from us to you! Be sure to share with your friends and family and help them have flawless foundation this summer.

Beauty Tip: At Home Blackhead Miracle Remover

Here is a great tip for how you can get rid of stubborn and unattractive blackhead's at home. It's important being in the entertainment industry to have great skin, especially on your face. Having blackhead's isn't fun so this can help you get that smooth, clear skin to keep your skin looking beautiful and healthy for any casting's or go-see's. YOU are your product, so be sure to invest in and take care of yourself!

Use fine salt and backing soda! Save your money and stop buying those blackhead removal creams, strips etc and use this at-home tip.

How?

Take a gel facial wash, mix it with a tablespoon of baking soda and a tablespoon of salt. Apply it to your damp skin with cotton pad and leave it on for 5 minutes. When the time is up, remove the cotton pad and voila! You should see your gross blackhead's no longer on your skin but on the cotton pad. It's THAT simple and work's wonders!

Hope you enjoyed this beauty tip from us to you. Be sure to share with your friends and family and pass on this great and cost effective tip!

Wellness Wednesday - Label & Plan Your Meals & Snacks

Here is a great tip to help you stay fit and healthy so that you are feeling at your best when you are on set or at casting's or go-see's.

Plan out your meals and snack's so that you have prepared yummy and healthy foods for yourself throughout the day, may it be on a daily basis or just to take with you on day's you're at casting's or on set.

Decide on foods you want to eat throughout the day, lots of fruits and veggies are good along with nuts and seeds (Trail Mix's are amazing) that are "Hunger Killers" since they suppress your appetite, keep your satiated and are good for you.

Use recyclable bags and sticky notes to package and label your meals. An added tip - add the time you plan on eating them as well so that you keep your metabolism going and this can even help you lose weight.

As long as you're eating healthy foods and eating at regular intervals, planning meals so you don't impulsively eat junk or fast food, you'll be sure to find you have lots of energy and are ready to take on anything, even a leading role in a movie or TV show!

Hope you enjoyed this little tip from us to you!

Wellness Wednesday - Tips to get your children to eat their veggies

How To: Get your children to eat their vegetables

Anyone who has kids understands that it takes a lot of skill and a little finesse to get your kids to eat their veggies. Most kids would prefer to dine on a strict diet of sugary and processed goodness. Pleading seems in vain because they tune out when you say, "Please eat your vegetables. They're good for you." Eating healthy is majorly important for anyone to live a full and healthy lifestyle but especially in the entertainment industry. Not only do you want to stay fit and healthy so that you can look and feel your best but so that you can have lots of energy to take on roles and last days on sets working.

Number One Lesson- Start Early

  • Offer babies variety of baby food and toddlers a variety of veggies and entrees
  • Encourage you children to taste everything, but never force them to eat anything
  • If you kids reject something keep cooking it; it may take 15 times before they will even taste it but they can eventually acquire a taste.
  • Breast feeding for longer than 6 months seems to help prevent picky eaters
  • Make meal time fun: surprise dinner- mealtime mystery, give a squeeze- preschool tips, uncover the character- colorful spoon and stickers

Number Two Lesson- Make Veggies a Treat
  • Add a small amount of sugar to veggies
  • Add cheese to broccoli
  • Sneak veggies in foods your kids like: use recipes from Deceptively Delicious, or add fruit to cereal, yogurt and Jell-O
  • Offer fresh veggies and dip with meal
  • Let you kids help prepare meals
  • Plant a vegetable and garden together with your kids

Number Three Lesson- Become a Great Example
  • Make sure you eat fruits and veggies at every meal.
  • Stir fry veggies
  • Snack on veggies, homemade trial mix or dried fruit
  • Serve fruit salad for desert
  • Put grated carrots, and fresh or frozen spinach into spaghetti sauce
  • Cook a vegetarian dinner one night a week

BEAUTY TIP - DIY Acne Fighting Face Mask

Here are a couple suggestions for two at home DIY face masks to help fight acne and open pore problems and with regular use your skin will become smooth and radiant within only a few days. It is super important to have great skin especially in the entertainment industry. Of course we all get the occasional acne break out but that's why we have these great DIY tips to help!

Egg Whites contain proteins which can help us rebuild and heal our damaged skin and also it helps to temporarily shrink the pores as well. On the other hand Vitamin E works as an antioxidant agent which puts up a fight against the free radicals, which affect the healing process of skin.

1. Take a Vitamin E capsule and open it on your face so that all oil present in the capsule falls onto your face. Then give your face a light massage and let it soak for 30 minutes.

2. Take egg whites and apply it to your skin. Let it soak for 30 minutes and then rinse with cold water.

Wellness Wednesday: Delicious Chocolate Cake with NO Flour & NO Sugar!

Here is a great recipe for chocolate cake that is actually GOOD for you! No flour and NO sugar! Check this out and try this for a yummy, guilt-free snack for the kids or yourself to curb your sweet tooth.

What You'll Need:
100g dark chocolate
200g canned beans (I took white ones)
2 eggs
1/4 – 1/2 tsp baking powder (depending on how spongy you want the cake)

No sweetener! No sugar!

Preheat oven to 175C. Take your blender and make a completely smooth mass out of beans and eggs (add eggs gradually). You should have no traces of beans in this mixture. Nonetheless, if there are bits of beans, take a sieve and pass the mixture through it. Melt the chocolate, cool slightly and then whisk together with the bean-egg mixture and baking powder. Pour batter in a greased pan. Bake for about 30 min. Each oven is different, so the time may vary, but you really don’t want to overbake the cake.

About the merits: No flour = less carbs. Even more, beans provide us with fiber and protein. I’m sure you may already know about the wonders that beans do in baking. They make the consistency fudgy and moist. Particularly this cake was divine!

FASHION FRIDAY - Coral's and Lace

Coral's and Lace for Summer

Get a fun, flirty and bright casual look for summer. Coral's and Bright Orange's are HOT and IN! Here is a suggestion for something to wear consisting of gorgeous white lace and bright orange pieces that pop. Let's look our best while staying in trend this upcoming summer. With the hot weather ahead of us, having bright shorts and cute flip flops can become an outfit staple while mixing different neutral tops and adding colourful accessories.

Beauty Tip: Make Your Eyelashes Grow

Wash an old mascara wand and an empty or old nail polish container. Fill with: 1/4 of the container with Castor Oil, 1/2 Vitamin E Oil, 1/4 Aloe Vera Gel. Mix the concoction together as well as you can with your mascara wand, and apply a light layer to lashes (or brows) every night before bed. Castor oil thickens your lashes while aloe vera gel lengthens. Vitamin E accelerates length. Give it about a month for results and you should have beautifully longer lashes!

Beauty Tip: Aloe Vera as a Foundation Primer

Foundation Primer Alternative

Use Aloe vera gel as face primer before applying foundation. Use a few drops smoothed evenly over your face and let dry. This makes a great prepped surface for makeup application at a fraction of the cost of what you'd pay for a store sold silicone foundation primer. Aloe vera has no threat of smothered pore consequences and side effects like breakouts that the silicone primer options have. Those can range from $20-$80 a bottle as opposed to using Aloe vera for around $5 a bottle.

It's important in the modelling and acting world to have great skin as YOU are your investment. This tip could help give you that glowing skin and flawless foundation application to make you stand out and look fresh in a casting/go-see. Get healthier and glowing skin at a fraction of the cost.

Leave-In Hair Growth Treatment

Leave-In Hair Lengthener

2 bags - Camomile tea (make sure it's 100% camomile) or Peppermint tea
1/2 tbs - Dry Rosemary leaves
5 tsp - Lemon juice (from the bottle or the real thing)
1 cup - Water
OPTIONAL: 4 tsp Apple Cider Vinegar

Step 1: Heat up your water and steep the camomile tea bags. Let set and move on to next step.
Step 2: Grind your rosemary leaves as fine as possible
Step 3: Remove tea bags and add lemon juice to the tea. Stir together.
Step 4: Add the grind rosemary leaves and stir into the mixture. Let sit for an entire day so the rosemary steeps as much as possible.
Step 5: Strain the rosemary the next day and add to a spray bottle and use in your hair accordingly.
