Hot Paws Talent: Marshall on The Marketplace

Meet Marshall: The Marketplace watchdog!

Marketplace has always had your back. But on October 4, Canada’s consumer watchdog kicks off our 41st season by going all out - on all fours - to sniff out the truth about vet bills. In Barking Mad, you’ll meet the star of our first-ever canine undercover unit: Marshall the bulldog.
After an extensive search for the right dog to join our team of investigators, we signed up Marshall for his unique qualifications. We needed a real digger, a dog who was calm and friendly under pressure; well trained and with the stamina to endure long days on the job. We also needed a dog who was healthy and up-to-date on his vaccinations, essential for our test. Wired with a hidden camera, we took Marshall to the vet  for an annual wellness exam to see what treatment they would recommend.

Marshall was more than up to the task. After all, he’s a professional, not to mention Canada’s Top Bulldog for 2012. The English Bulldog, who turns four this October, also has his own website (though he’s not on Twitter yet, we checked). And, in case you couldn’t tell, he’s an actor and model, featured in Toronto weekly The Grid as one of Toronto’s top working dogs.
His resume may be longer than his tail but we were won over by his good looks and charm. “He’s the dog of a lifetime,” says owner Tammy McAllister. “He’s joyful and has such an easy going temperament. I’ll probably never find another dog quite like him.”
So what did our vets recommend? Tune in on Friday, October 4 at 8 p.m. (8:30 p.m. in Newfoundland and Labrador) as Marshall helps Marketplace reveal what’s got so many pet owners in Canada Barking Mad.

You can be a Marketplace watchdog and join our investigation! Send in photos of your dog or cat - plus your pet bills for basic services including a wellness exam, dental cleaning, spay/neutering or x-rays - as we track what pet owners pay across the country. How do your vet bills measure up? We’re building a map of dog and cat costs coast-to-coast. Find out more about the project here.
