How-To: Ombre Lips

Here is a really cool trick you can do with your lipstick in your next photo shoot - ombre glossed lips!

This trick gives amazing dimension to your lips and and the gloss adds great shine - really making you pop and stand out in your photos.

How?

Step 1: Choose your coloured lip liner of choice, any colour you'd like, so as natural and subtle as you want with a nude or a bright pink like in the photo to the right.

Step 2: Line your lips with your lipliner and then fill in about half of your lips from your lip line but leave a small amount untouched.

Step 3: Take a light coloured eyeshadow in the same colour family as the coloured lip liner you chose. (Light pink or a pale nude/beige etc). Push the light shadow onto the inner naked portion of your lips and blend into the liner.

Step 4: Add a clear gloss on top to blend together and add shine! Add some shimmer for a night out or more dramatic look!

VOILA! You're done and have great 3-D looking lips that pop! This can be done with literally any shade so don't be afraid to try it out. It looks amazing with neutral colours and is more subtle that way so you can even wear it to a casting or go-see.

Beauty Tip Thursday - Contouring and Highlighting

Being able to do some basic makeup looks/skills is a huge asset in the entertainment industry especially if you're just starting out and on a budget. Hiring a makeup artist is great, but if you need to cut costs, learn how to do things yourself or at least have a working knowledge of what your makeup artist is doing and why.

Here is a great photo with step-by-step of how to contour and highlight your face. Contouring allows for sculpting your face's best assets and accentuating your features and highlighting brings light to your face in the right places. Both of these are essentials for photo shoot's and if done right can make your photos 10x better and more appealing to casting director's looking at your picture. Trust us when we tell you that photos can make or break if you even get an audition, so if you haven't been getting anything lately maybe it's time to update your photos!

Below is a photo that makes contouring/highlighting and applying blush super easy to understand. Apply your bronzer with an angled brush for contouring your cheeks - under your cheek bones. Add blush above that as well as slightly on the apples of your cheeks and highlight above your cheekbones. Some other area's to add bronzer would be your hairline and jawline and add highlighter in the middle of your forehead, down the bridge of your nose and the center of your chin.

Enjoy!

Beauty Tip Thursday - The Classic Red Lip & Winged Eyeliner

The classic look made famous by Hollywood star's like Marilyn Monroe and Audrey Hepburn in the 50's is the pin up girl look - bold red lips and bold black eyeliner. This is a look that is timeless and absolutely gorgeous.

Being in the entertainment industry this is a MUST on your list of looks to know how to rock. This look is great for photo shoots and can really play up your features and make you stand out from the crowd. Hopefully rocking this look can help your photos be attention grabbers and get you some auditions.

Here's how you can achieve this look:

1. Have a red lipstick that compliments your colouring (if you don't know how to choose a red be sure to consult with a professional at M.A.C or Sephora etc) and a lip liner a couple shades darker to go with it. Lip liner's are essential for red lips!

2. Black gel eyeliner (with an angled liner brush) is what I recommend as it's easy to apply and gives a great polished finish.

3. A neutral beige toned eyeshadow for your lid's and a light brown shade for the crease of your eye.

4. A great and bold voluminous mascara to give you some fierce lashes!

5. A couple bonus items that could further your look would be a good bronzer and highlighter for contouring and highlighting the angles of your face.

Here is a video I did of a red lip tutorial that can help you further.

Beauty Tip: Easy At-Home Makeup Protector

Makeup can last all day by using a common household product as a makeup protector. This magic ingredient is believe it or not - CORNSTARCH.

Having a flawless face is important being in the entertainment industry, so anything that can help us look our best is key! Having foundation that lasts all day and doesn't streak or sweat in the heat is a huge asset for any girl, especially those acting or modelling.

Simply mix it with a bit of your foundation and you're set! This is completely safe and shouldn't irritate your skin. However, if you have sensitive or acne prone skin be sure to test it out on a smaller area first just to be cautious. This will help your face stay dry, keep off the sweat for summer & be non greasy all day long.

We hope you enjoyed this great tip from us to you! Be sure to share with your friends and family and help them have flawless foundation this summer.

Beauty Tip: Make Your Eyelashes Grow

Wash an old mascara wand and an empty or old nail polish container. Fill with: 1/4 of the container with Castor Oil, 1/2 Vitamin E Oil, 1/4 Aloe Vera Gel. Mix the concoction together as well as you can with your mascara wand, and apply a light layer to lashes (or brows) every night before bed. Castor oil thickens your lashes while aloe vera gel lengthens. Vitamin E accelerates length. Give it about a month for results and you should have beautifully longer lashes!

Beauty Tip: Best Bronzer for EVERYONE!

NARS 'Laguna' Bronzing Powder is a go-to staple for your makeup kit. This bronzer is a rich texture and has subtle shimmer that glisten's beautifully on your skin in the sun! It can be built up for intensity and it suits very pale skin as well as darker skin tone's so it's perfect for every woman. The product lasts you forever and is definitely worth it's $42 price tag. (I had mine for almost 2 years before I had to buy my second one.)

This is hands down one of the best bronzers on the market and a must have for any girl this summer.

Beauty Tip: Neon Pink Lips

Make a statement this Spring with NEON Pink lipstick!

Neon's are back this Spring/Summer and neon pink is a great statement colour to wear on your lips. It is a bright and fun colour that will pop beautifully with basic and neutral makeup everywhere else. Be sure to keep light neutral tone's on your eyes and face so the pink really stands out. Bronzer is your best friend with this look, especially for summer as it will emphasize all your best features.

You can add some drama to your look by applying thick black eyeliner and winging it out for that added flare link the photo featured below. Fill in your eyebrows for a fierce look and you'll stand out of a crowd in an instant!

M.A.C's "Candy Yum Yum" is the perfect neon pink lipstick!

Milani's "Rose Hip" is a great drugstore alternative for anyone on a budget.

Beauty Tip: Get rid of ZITS!

A really cool and handy beauty tip for zapping zits is to take an Advil liquid gel capsule and crack it open and apply the gel cap directly to your zit. This works instantly, getting rid of the inflammation and ridding yourself of an awful break out.

Makeup artists use this trick ALL the time especially backstage at fashion shows. We all know how frustrating it can be having a breakout the morning of a photo shoot, fashion show or casting call/go see! Use this trick and instantly get rid of the swelling in your zit and zap it away!

Good Luck!

Beauty Tip: Nude Lips

For female models and actors, having a fresh face is extremely important. This means no flashy or bright makeup but clean and simple. When attending castings or go-see's your face should be a clean canvas for any clients who want to book you for either print and/or runway but also for commercials, films and TV. So girls, rocking the nude lips is a major must & even better, it's universally flattering!

It's okay to wear a bit of makeup to auditions and castings but go basic and natural. Having the perfect nude lipstick is a must so be sure you have one best suited for your skin tone and colouring on hand at all times.

Even if you're not in the entertainment industry, a nude lipstick is a staple for any girl's makeup collection as it has become a part of such a new classic look. You have so many options with a nude lip! You can play up the cheeks with colour or eyes with a smokey look or dramatic lashes.

So when attending an audition of any kind, be sure to wear you nude lipstick to add some simple colour to your lips. You'll stand out whilst looking like that natural beauty you are!

Some shades I recommend (featured above in order from left to right) are M.A.C's 'Fleshpot', a gorgeous pale nude shade; 'Hue' for a more pink toned nude; and 'Viva Glam II' for a darker beige-nude. CN $18.50 / US $15.00

  • First be sure to exfoliate your lips so they are soft and smooth. I recommend a sugar scrub (there are some DIY options for this that can be found online) and then add a lip chap to moisturise. This is important so your lipstick isn't streaky and because some nude lipsticks tend to be sheer.
  • Second be sure to apply a thin layer of concealer or your foundation to act as a base, especially if your lipstick is on the lighter side. This also helps make the colour more opaque.
  • Apply a matching lip liner for a fuller and more dramatic flare and then your nude shade of choice. (You can either leave it Matte or add a nude gloss on top).

We love both Carrie Underwood and Katy Perry! They both know how to rock their nude lip according to their different skin tones and colouring. Blondes can get away with a lighter nude shade (M.A.C 'Fleshpot') while dark haired beauties like Katy should go with a warmer nude with some pink hue's (M.A.C 'Hue').

What is your favourite nude lipstick? Let us know!
