Freedom School of the Arts September Newsletter & Class Info

"Thankfully, perseverance is a good substitute for talent."

~ Steve Martin
I was talking with my friend, who is a casting agent, about the business and how to be successful and one thing that he said really struck me, "Success in this business is not about agents, looks, timing or even talent. It's about your ability to stay committed and persevere through all the rejection."

I've been in the business for a very long time and this really hit home. My advice, stay creative because you love it, or because you find the people around you are interesting or you find it wonderfully challenging... but stick with it, it does pay off.
We've created our own blog where you can go and look for castings. We get calls almost everyday, so subscribe and check in often to freedomschoolofthearts.wordpress.com

If you have a casting you'd like to post send all the details to info@freedomschoolofthearts.com

Fall Lipstick Trends

Fall is fast approaching, the leaves are already starting to turn colour! That means fall beauty and fashion trends are here! One of the biggest season's for trends and fashion, so get ready!

Lipstick is always a fun trend to follow and it's easy to switch up and add to your collection if you're on a budget for beauty trends. Being in the entertainment industry it's good to know what is trending so you can know what you are promoting or potential jobs you can have etc.

Plums and purple's are HOT! Anyone can rock it, just find your perfect shade and you're all set for fall. You don't have to spend a fortune on lipstick either, there are many brands that sell great colours in trend for affordable costs like the Maybelline one featured to the right. There are many purple hue's to choose from!

*Correction MAC lipstick is $18 not $12 (some prices may be American and prices may vary depending on the store).

Creamy Peanut Butter Dip and Fruit Slices

Apples and peanut butter is a classic healthy snack, but since one tablespoon of peanut butter contains 95 calories, those calories can add up, especially when you're spooning it out without measuring. Being a model or actress it's good to have yummy tasting food but to have food that tastes delicious without all the calories and fat is even better! Here's a way to enjoy that creamy, nutty taste without all the calories.

This fruit dip is made with nonfat Greek yogurt, so it's sweet, low in fat, full of protein, and tastes like peanut butter ice cream! Keep reading to see this simple 63-calorie recipe.

Ingredients

6 ounces nonfat vanilla Greek yogurt
1 tablespoon natural peanut butter
1/2 tablespoon maple syrup
1/8 teaspoon cinnamon

Directions

  1. Mix all the ingredients in a bowl. Serve with sliced apples, pears, bananas, strawberries, or grapes.
  2. Store unused portion in the fridge.

How-To: Ombre Lips

Here is a really cool trick you can do with your lipstick in your next photo shoot - ombre glossed lips!

This trick gives amazing dimension to your lips and and the gloss adds great shine - really making you pop and stand out in your photos.

How?

Step 1: Choose your coloured lip liner of choice, any colour you'd like, so as natural and subtle as you want with a nude or a bright pink like in the photo to the right.

Step 2: Line your lips with your lipliner and then fill in about half of your lips from your lip line but leave a small amount untouched.

Step 3: Take a light coloured eyeshadow in the same colour family as the coloured lip liner you chose. (Light pink or a pale nude/beige etc). Push the light shadow onto the inner naked portion of your lips and blend into the liner.

Step 4: Add a clear gloss on top to blend together and add shine! Add some shimmer for a night out or more dramatic look!

VOILA! You're done and have great 3-D looking lips that pop! This can be done with literally any shade so don't be afraid to try it out. It looks amazing with neutral colours and is more subtle that way so you can even wear it to a casting or go-see.

How to Style Bangs

Fall is fast approaching and that means bangs are back in season! Bangs are super sexy and in style for autumn seasons and I highly encourage you guys give them a try. I always go back to my straight across bangs in September. As a model of actress it's great to freshen up your look and update your photos every 6 months to a year and if you're due for new one's now is the time to try a bit of a new look without being too drastic in changing your hair!

Bangs are an easy cut and easy fix to grow out and they look fabulous and very high fashion. On the right facial and bone structure bangs can completely change your look for the better and could possibly start booking you jobs! Here are some ways you can style them if you're unsure or don't know how to wear them after you leave the salon.

1. COMB IT.
Comb out your wet bangs with a wide tooth comb. Easy!
2. PADDLE IT.
Hold the blow dryer above your head (in your right hand) and focus the nozzle downward. Blow the bangs to the left for 5-10 seconds using a flat paddle brush. Then, switch hands and blow to the right for 5-10 seconds. Your bangs should be slightly damp.
3. WRAP IT.
Wrap the center section of your bangs around a medium-sized round brush and hit them with the blow dryer from above. You’re going to be left with some crazy, voluminous bangs. However, by the time you finish your makeup and walk out the door, they will fall into place leaving you with full, sexy bangsNote: I only use a round brush in the center section; not the sides.
4. HIT IT (& QUIT IT).
But for real – one last quick hit with the blow dryer from up above and you’re done.
Are bangs in your future? If you have them, how do you style them?
